Sacred ResponsePart 41, "The Story We Find Ourselves In"- Dale Pauls- 5/4/2008 So marriage has been under real threat for a long time. From any close reading of Scripture it was under threat back then. Consider Proverbs 5 and its timeless advice to “rejoice in the wife of your youth.” There the writer warns of the adulteress. Is she a prostitute, a fertility priestess, or the woman next door? We’re not sure. Literally, in the Hebrew text, she’s the “strange woman.” How enticing are her words! Keep away. Do not go near the door of her house—Don’t click that mouse—lest you give your best strength to others (verse 9). At the end of your life you will groan when your flesh and body are spent (verse 11). Principles that shape our church family
ScriptureWe believe in Scripture. We understand that Scripture invites us into a living relationship with God. In the ongoing life of our church family, we find it to be always reliable and authoritative. In our efforts to be faithful and truthful in our application of Scripture, we seek to understand each text as it was written, that is, in light of its original intent and context. (1 & 2 Timothy, esp. 2 Timothy 3:16-17) More Guiding Values |

The Stamford Church of Christ is a multi-racial, gender-inclusive Church of Christ. We honor as our spiritual heritage those attempts that began in America early in the 19th century to restore the life and spirit of Christianity as envisioned by Jesus and his apostles. So we are a community of believers - disciples of Jesus - who have confessed their faith in him and have been baptized into him. And we take seriously His teachings and their implications for the world in which we live. From their beginnings, Churches of Christ have been "locally owned and operated". We have no denominational organization or headquarters. So there are things we do that other Churches of Christ may not, and things that other Churches of Christ may do that we do not. As the result of much study of scripture, for instance, we do not restrict roles or assign privilege or status on the basis of birth. We believe that God judges all people everywhere not by the categories of their physical births but by the maturity of their spiritual births. |
